DOCU-SERIES ON IMMIGRATION

Netflix has a new docuseries, Immigration Nation, which premiered Monday, August 3.  Filmmakers Shaul Schwarz and Christina Clusiau were embedded with immigration officers, and the series allows viewers to peer into the secretive agencies waging the war on immigrants.

The documentary and filmmakers were featured in a recent New York Times piece that detailed how DHS and ICE had fought to delete scenes and delay the release of the film until after the election.  Resilience Force is featured.  Episode 4, The New Normal, introduces viewers to resilience workers – the vast immigrant workforce who help rebuild cities after climate disasters.

As they rebuild after hurricanes, Trump’s ICE agents hunt them down.  Conservatives admit they need these workers.  They are essential.  ICE’s deportation of these workers interrupts hurricane recovery. The New Normal shows resilience workers persevering to rebuild communities even as they fight Trump surrogates and ICE in the Florida panhandle.

This series comes as President Trump is deploying DHS troops to quell the movement to defund police. It can build support and visibility for campaigns to end the terror of DHS and ICE.

SUPPORT RELIEF FOR IMPOVERISHED COUNTRIES

As Congress works on an additional coronavirus relief package, it is critical that support be given to countries without means to control the virus, countries that also face crises of crushing debt and food insecurity.

Attached to the Bridges email is a message from LCWR on this issue, that includes a resource from the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns giving an easy means of reaching your congresspersons.
