YOUTH STRIKE FOR CLIMATE CHANGE

On September 20, 2019, young people will kick off a worldwide week of action with an international strike.  September 20th will be the largest mass mobilization for climate action in human history.  This time, adults will be joining the youth-led call for climate action to demand world leaders take meaningful steps to address this crisis with the urgency it requires.  Youth and adults will stand arm-in-arm in the fight together for the future of humanity.  In Washington, DC, thousands of people with join us to demand climate actions and local youth organizers from over a dozen organizations, including Fridays for FutureZero HourOneMillionOfUs350.orgDC Youth Climate StrikeNational Children’s Campaign, and Our Children’s Trust, will strike in solidarity with millions of people around the world to demand a safe and survivable future.  Our generation is here to say enough is enough and now is the time for immediate climate action.

The New York strike is expected to attract thousands of people, and parallel strikes in DC, Boston, Seattle, Minneapolis, Miami, Los Angeles, and Denver may, too.  But this is truly a global strike and it will be the movement’s largest yet, with 2,500 events scheduled across 150 countries.  (The Global Climate Strike website has a searchable map showing all the events.) Millions in all may participate in the two strikes on the 20th and 27th.

 

YOUTH CLIMATE SUMMIT

The UN Youth Climate Summit is a platform for young leaders who are driving climate action to showcase their solutions at the United Nations, and to meaningfully engage with decision-makers on the defining issue of our time.

This historic event will take place on Saturday, September 21 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, as part of a weekend of events leading up to the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit on Monday, September 23.

The Youth Climate Summit will feature a full-day of programming that brings together young activists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers who are committed to combating climate change at the pace and scale needed to meet the challenge. It will be action oriented, intergenerational, and inclusive, with equal representation of young leaders from all walks of life.
