5th October 2016: I awoke to at 5.30 this morning as hurricane Matthew continued to rage in Jean Rabel, NW Haiti. The wind howled and the rain poured down. We thanked our lucky stars we were fortunate to be living upstairs over the local school in the town. This meant we were unlikely to have rain coming in the doors regardless of how many inches fell. Many were not so lucky; I saw children busy trying to get rid of about 12 inches of water outside the door of their home at about 9.00 am this morning.

Early next week, Srs. Marge, Rosemary and Rita will share a few of their “highlights” on the General Conference. Meanwhile, check the Congregational website, for updates and pictures of our General Conference taking place in Rome from October 4 - 14.
ES.PE.RE PROGRAM ARRIVES IN HAITI: On May 18 we welcomed Maria de la Paz Viniegra, RJM (Mari Paz) and Haydee Barrera, RJM (Chely) to Port-au-Prince. They are from the Province of Mexico and are assigned to Havana, Cuba. They came to offer a workshop on ESPERE and to prepare a small group that could then offer it here in Haiti.
PEACE WALK IN WARWICK, RI: Sisters Vivian Patenaude, RJM, and Doris Bissonnette, RJM, along with other St. Timothy parishioners, joined the group for the one o’clock start time. Flags were distributed along with song sheets and instructions at St. Timothy’s steps. We were encouraged to walk with someone from another parish whom we did not know, which created interesting conversation.
SYRIAN REFUGEES WELCOMED AS NEIGHBORS: Representatives from more than 20 different faith organizations came together on April 9, to welcome six refugee families from war-torn Syria who have relocated to Hyattsville, Riverdale Park and College Park, MD.
Refugee & Immigration Ministries, helped organize the welcome dinner as a part of a national “Refugees Welcome” campaign, since one of the needs the refugees have is to simply know their neighbors.
From November 17 – 24, I had the opportunity to accompany Monica Joseph, RJM, superior general, and Alejandra Diaz, RJM, councilor for the Americas, on their very short visit to Haiti. We visited Gros Morne, Jean Rabel; visiting the atelier to see the women at work; and visiting the first pre-school established in the area at Colette.
