ANNIVERSARY OF BOMBING OF HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI

August 6th and 9th will mark the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  Since this initial use of nuclear weapons, their production and testing on the part of the USA and eight other countries continues to harm the health, environment and cultures of communities around the world.

Attached to this issue of BRIDGES you will find information on nuclear weapons, resources for commemorating this anniversary and invitations to join with others, including a national virtual event on August 6th and 9th.

PROTEST AGAINST PROPOSED RULES ON ASYLUM

Sr. Ann Scholz of LCWR wrote to report that 79,000 public comments were posted in response to the new proposed rules on Asylum.  The RJM Statement was attached to a recent issue of BRIDGES.

The effort to collect comments was led by CLINIC (Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc.), where Sr. Margaret Perron once served as Director of the Division of Religious Immigration Services.

May these efforts bear fruit in a just and compassionate treatment of those at our borders!
