A NEW YORK PENTECOST

The celebration of Pentecost took on new meaning in this time of pandemic as the New York RJMs gathered to celebrate the “Birthday of the Church”, and that of Sr. Norene Costa.  Little did they know that Norene would broaden this celebration to each of their birthdays as well.

Much like that first Pentecost, fear and confusion marked the six NY RJMs as some of their cane-bearing comrades negotiated the ruts and rough terrain outside the Bethany Lake Cottage, in preparation for their celebratory outdoor picnic.

Similar to that early Upper Room experience, the sisters were initially startled by mysterious noises lakeside (voices from neighboring fishermen), and their ranks were soon joined by a host of mosquitos encircling each one’s head, in true flame-like fashion.
