Gazing upon our world with Claudine’s eyes, being moved as she was by the suffering around her, we beg for the grace to be moved to COMPASSION and ACTION as she was. We are invited to explore the depths of that compassion in ourselves.
20th Anniversary Issue! The 20th anniversary of the Haiti Mission will be celebrated in Haiti on Sunday, October 29, 2017. So, in this issue we highlight the remembrances of many who served in the Haiti Mission over the last 20 years.
For the past month, I have been a tutor for adult foreign students who are beginning ESL classes at Dorcas International Institute in Providence, which offers a variety of programs to refugees/immigrants.
In November, Sr. Mary and Sr. Jackie began volunteering at RIRAL (Rhode Island Regional Adult Literacy) located in Woonsocket, RI. The mission of this agency is to assist adults in the process of reaching their academic, occupational, or personal goals through education, counseling, and training. RIRAL provides instruction in English language, reading, writing, math and technology, as well as college readiness.
Sr. Helen Mary Haigh Provincial of Europe, shared the text of a talk given by one of our Syrian sisters, Sr. Annie Demerjian. During October, Sr. Annie was in England, speaking there to various groups on behalf of her people. An excerpt from her presentation is given below.
