Sr. Isabel Solá Matas, RJM, was killed in 2016 while ministering in Pot-au-Prince, Haiti. Sr. Isa was a nurse, a teacher, a musician and composer, and a leader; she found beauty and joy through photography. She created an album of her photos from 2013-2014 which she shared with her family and the Religious of Jesus and Mary.

Recently, a copy of this album was given by her family to Pope Francis. The Holy Father remembered Sr. Isa as part of his Sunday Angelus on the same weekend that he canonized St. Teresa of Calcutta. The Pope said: “I would like to remember those who spend their time in the service of our brothers and sisters in difficult or risky environments. Let us pray especially for the Spanish missionary sister, Sister Isabel, who was killed two days ago in the capital of Haiti.”

The RJM share excerpts of that album, Bel Ayiti, that capture through images and words how Sr. Isa saw Haiti and how so many involved in the RJM mission see “beautiful Haiti.” Click below to see Haiti through the Eyes of Sr. Isa.
