“CURÍN” GARCÍA CALVO – Joins RJM in Jean Rabel, Haiti

Hello to the entire USA province!!!  First of all, I would like to thank the Congregation for the possibility of going to Jean Rabel (Haiti) and being able to get to know and live in another reality.

Let me introduce myself: my name is María José García Calvo, although everyone knows me as “Curín.”  I was born in Madrid and I am the youngest of three sisters.  I’m 36 years old.  I studied Hispanic Philology and, in my last year of university, I decided to listen to God and entered the Congregation.  I have done all of my formation in Spain, studying theology at the university of the Society of Jesus in Granada.

I am a very active person and that has led me to

always combine my mission with studying.  For the last 7 years I have been assigned to the Colegio Mayor de Granada, in charge of pastoral care and the promotion of social and cultural activities for university students.  Also in recent years, I have been able to approach and help with the realities of some migrants who have arrived in Granada and who encounter many obstacles of all kinds.  I have collaborated with some associations that welcome and help people in situations of special vulnerability, and this has been a great gift for me.

For some time now, I have felt the call to take another step in following Jesus and in my commitment to the Gospel.  For this reason, I feel called to go to Haiti, beyond my borders…

I appreciate the welcome you, as a province, are giving me.  I pray for you, please pray for me also.

– Sr. Curín García Calvo RJM
