CELEBRATING WOMEN IN HISTORY – Washington School for Girls
This month, Women’s History Month, WSG is celebrating its three Founding Spirits: Claudine Thevenet, Cornelia Connelly, (Founder of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus) and Mary McLeod Bethune (Founder of The National Council of Negro Women).
Sr. Eileen Reid, RJM currently serves on The Founding Spirit Committee of The WSG Board. The purpose of this committee is to keep alive the legacy of each of these three courageous women who in their own day fought against many odds to promote the dignity and development of young women. Thus, the motto of WSG from its beginning — In the Spirit of Courageous Women. Let’s hear it for collaboration across the ages!
Above is a photo sent by Dr. Beth Reaves, current President of WSG. It is a picture of the “Pop Up Museum” being displayed at WSG during Women’s History Month. The title of the display is: “Celebrating our Women’s History@WSG” – ‘In the Spirit of Courage of Courageous Women.’! The panels from left to right: Mary McLeod Bethune, Claudine Thevenet, Cornelia Connelly.
