INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT – June 5th

Maryknoll Lay Missioner Abby Belt brought us a DVD copy of “Taking Root” about Wangari Maathai’s life and the Greenbelt Movement in Kenya. So, on June 5, International Day for the Environment, the Lekol Jezi-Mari student body learned about Wangari Maathai and her Greenbelt Movement by watching “Taking Root”, on the screen by the red door.
The day before, our fifth and sixth graders walked to Grepin and visited the Fr. Jean Marie Vincent Forest. Our school director, Leny Laguerre, discussed the forest experience with these students on June 5th.
Also, Sr. Janice Farnham, RJM made us aware of a beautifully illustrated book about Wangari Maathai’s life. To see illustrations and learn more about the book, click here.
